The Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva, has said the country accidentally discovered 206 trillion cubic feet of gas, (tcf), reserves while searching for crude oil.

Sylva, who revealed this in Abuja at a Nigeria News Agency, (NAN) forum to highlight the achievements in the oil and gas sector since taking office, said the country could uncover an additional 600 tcf of reserve to enable it to achieve development. desired from a gas nation.

“We were actually going to look for crude oil and we found gas; and in this process of accidentally searching for gas, we found up to 206 tcf”, he disclosed.

According to the minister, the country’s transition from gas to renewable fuel will be gradual once it has fully utilised the advantages associated with gas.

Sylva described the country’s gas expansion program as a highway to economic prosperity and development.

According to him, the federal government is now paying more attention to gas development because it provides a more important link to the economy than crude oil.

The minister noted that the creation of jobs from gas alone is immeasurable by the number of people who would be affected in the value-chain.
